Which worktop to choose?

Stone countertops are beautiful and elegant, enhancing your kitchen and adding value to your home for decades. Stone countertops are durable, scratch-resistant and, most importantly, extremely practical. However, if you have decided to use stone countertops, you should be aware that the properties of the stones can vary.

quartz

QUARTZ

Quartz stone is also known as artificial stone or pressed granite. Its advantages include an unchanging and uniform color tone and excellent technical properties – quartz stone is strong, durable and has no pores that could absorb various substances. This makes quartz stone very hygienic. Quartz stone contains over 93% natural quartz, which is the second hardest stone after diamond. The rest of the additional components are epoxy, dyes and various additives that improve technical properties. With proper care, quartz will retain its beauty and properties for decades. However, it should be remembered that quartz stone is not completely heat-resistant and can crack as a result of thermal shock. A quartz worktop is for people who are comfortable (quartz surfaces do not require maintenance), practical and appreciate clean design.

MARMOR

Marble is a natural stone that has been formed from limestone over thousands of years under pressure and heat. Marble has always been a building material that symbolizes luxury, and today, countertops and floors made of this material add elegance and taste to your home. A wide range of colors are available, but not all of them are designed for use as countertops, so it is always worth making sure that marble is suitable before choosing it. For those whose heart yearns for natural white stone, there are few alternatives to marble. The elegant appearance of this material will last for years, and it is a classic and timeless choice for the kitchen. Experienced bakers also know that marble’s naturally low temperature makes it an ideal surface for baking. Being softer and more porous than granite, marble scratches and stains quite easily. Particular care should be taken with substances such as red wine, coffee and tea, oils, juices. Acidic fruits such as lemons can also damage the appearance/color of marble. Therefore, when placing drinking cups and glasses on a surface, you should always use coasters to prevent liquids from seeping into the marble. Marble is for people who appreciate luxury and uniqueness and who are not bothered by the traces of their love of cooking that have developed over decades.

GRANITE

Granite is a natural stone formed millions of years ago, which stands out primarily for its beauty, but also for its strength and durability. Granite worktops are wear-resistant and can withstand higher temperatures. Each worktop is unique, because it is not possible to make another copy with exactly the same pattern. Depending on the type of stone, the patterns can be relatively uniform, but also very variable. Due to its good heat and cold resistance, granite is ideal for the kitchen – hot pans, saucepans and oven pots can be placed directly on the worktop. Granite has low porosity, but it can still absorb liquids to a certain extent. When deciding on a granite worktop, it should be remembered that light granite is generally more moisture-absorbent and therefore more susceptible to stains than dark granite. Stains can be prevented by wiping away liquids that have spilled on the surface as soon as possible. A granite countertop is for someone who appreciates classic natural design.
